Diary of a Not So Wimpy Teacher: Made-It Monday: Labels, Blogger Swag and a Pie

Made-It Monday: Labels, Blogger Swag and a Pie

It was another productive, but super fun week of summer!
I started my week off at Ikea. That place is super dangerous! I dare you to leave the store with just one thing! We have a loft at our new house.  I wanted to create a space in the loft where my kids could do homework, craft and store all of their supplies. This is what we got and it is PERFECT!

It has a table for the kids to work at and tons of shelves for supplies, binders, notebooks, etc.

Everything is from Ikea except for the turquoise buckets. I got those at the dollar store.

I am crazy organized and OCD, but my kids are not! Whenever we go to do homework, all of the pencils are missing and their isn't an Expo marker to be found. Sigh. I decided to get lots of small buckets for the supplies rather than just using one bucket for everything. I also knew that the only way the kids would keep everything in the right place is if all the buckets were labeled. So I made these cute labels.

Since most of my buckets are black, I used a white label with just a pop of bright colors. But I love the look of a black background, so I used those on the turquoise buckets.

Don't these labels just make you swoon?! I had them printed at Staples. I brought my own paper, so they charged me 59 cents per page.

To make it super simple to attach the labels to the buckets, I printed them on sticker paper. I cut the labels out and then just pealed off the backing to adhere. So much simpler than  the packing tape that I usually use!

You can get these new white and bright or black and bright labels HERE. You will also find links to my coordinating math manipulative labels.

It was a happy mail week!  All of my blogger swag started to arrive. I didn't actually make this stuff. But it was my vision that inspired the design, so it counts right? I just love my new blog design! I might have gone a little crazy!

I bought the pens and my business cards from Vistaprint.

I purchased the button and a luggage tag from Zazzle. They were very inexpensive and came out super cute!

The cup is my very favorite! It is a 24oz tumbler from tervis.com. It was not cheap. It was my splurge. But I love it and don't regret buying it one tiny bit!

When I think of summer, I think of swimsuits, sunscreen and strawberries! One of my very favorite summer recipes is this super simple strawberry and cream pie! You can throw this together in no time at all and it is always a favorite at barbecues and summer gatherings. I am not much of a cook, so trust me when I say that anyone can pull this off!

1 deep dish pie crust (I am not much of a baker, so I buy mine!)
1 quart of strawberries cut in halves
1 cup of sour cream
1 cup of flour
1 1/4 cup sugar

Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Mix the flour, sugar and sour cream in a large bowl until it is smooth and creamy. Add the strawberries and gently mix them in. Pour into the pie crust.

Bake at 450 degrees for 10 minutes. Adjust the oven temperature to 350 degrees and back for an additional 30 minutes. Sprinkle a little sugar on top. Broil for one minute.

Chill in the refrigerator before serving.

  1. You make me wish I had a loft and kids so I can recreate that space! Alas- that is not in the future for a while. But kudos to you and your husband- that looks like a great place to do some work and have some fun!

  2. okay, seriously, love your swag stuff!

And the signs are PERFECT for me. I am doing my classroom in black and brights... Thanks for doing the work for me! :)

  3. I have to drive FOUR hours to get to an Ikea! You are an awesome Mom to provide such a cool space for them. I'd love that in my own CLASSROOM is there was space, for sure!
Oh....the pie....how you tempt us all. Looks super yummy! I may give that one a try!

  4. I can't tell you how much I love that desk set up. I'm homeschooling my oldest this year and we are still working on getting the playroom to function as a schoolroom. I may have to replicate this at some point.

  5. I love your new homework/study area for the kiddos. We are hunting for a new, larger house as we have outgrown our starter home. If there is a loft area, I am so going to recreate this type of study area! Heck, I'd like to have that kind of work area for me!!
As for that strawberry pie, I took my boys to the local u-pick strawberry farm. I think I know what I am going to do with all of those strawberries now. ;)
